Corporate
Citizenship
Free Radical Enterprises donates to not-for-profit organisations
which support people with disability. We are particularly
interested in bringing joy to people with disability and with
mental illness, who live or have lived in boarding houses
and institutions. We donate by:
- making cash donations to non-government, not-for-profit
organisations who work with people with disability;
- providing free entertainment for people with disability
using non-government, not-for-profit organisations through
these organisations; and
- providing discounted entertainment for people with disability
using non-government, not-for-profit organisations through
these organisations.
Demand for our entertainment products from the not-for-profit
sector has burgeoned. So that we can keep doing this important
work and enable other companies to do the same, we’ve
come up with a break-through donation program where corporations
can donate an entertainment product to the client group of
a not-for-profit, non-government organisation that supports
people with disabilities.

THE JOY INVESTMENT PROGRAM
What is ‘Joy Investment’?
At Free Radical Enterprises, we aim to bring happiness into
the lives of people with disability, as such people often
experience social disadvantage. Our Shows, parties, music,
magic and other entertainment services are the vehicles through
which we bring joy into people’s lives. Specially written
shows, music and choreographed dances are interactive, geared
to light up the lives of people with disability and mental
illness.
It is an investment because it requires the input of resources
and funds which yield a human profit – experiencing
joy improves well-being, productivity and longevity. Increasing
these factors help people with disability become better contributors
to society (socially and financially) and correspondingly
reduces the social disadvantage they experience.
Where do we do it?
Our Shows, parties, music, magic and other entertainment
we provide is delivered in entertainment facilities (such
as clubs, hotels, parks and event venues) and also at disability
support service centres.
Why ‘Joy Investment’?
Joy is intangible. It is a feeling associated with experiences
which evoke pleasure, delight and gladness. It cannot be measured
in outputs as government program dollars are.
Governments and private organisations often fund necessary
services, services which help needy people live in safe and
secure housing, eat regular meals and attend to the daily
chores of living. These are salutary aims. Necessary services
are valuable. Its part of the social welfare net we can all
rely on.
But what are the things you really value in life? Isn’t
it laughter? The photo of your muddy child proudly holding
the football he scored his first try with? The memory of your
favourite band playing live in concert?
Seeing as the things we really live for and get happiness
from amount to more than having the basic necessities of life,
we thought it crucial to fund activities which increase the
joy in people’s lives. Activities which give them a
reason to look forward to the days, weeks and months ahead.
Entertainment – because it’s just for fun.
Just like you buy tickets months in advance and look forward
with eagerness to see a musical like ‘The Boy From Oz’,
we think that people with disability look forward to things
like that too. Unfortunately, the pension doesn’t often
and mostly never stretches to be able to afford tickets to
such shows. So make our specially designed interactive entertainment
for people with disability affordable. Donate some entertainment
now.
How do I make a ‘Joy Investment’?
You can invest in joy by picking an entertainment product
you have seen on our website and donating the cost of providing
this entertainment to a non-government, not-for-profit organisation
that supports people with disability. Eligible disability
support organisations to which you can donate entertainment
packages can be found by clicking here:
How does my not-for-profit disability service organisation
benefit from the ‘Joy Investment’ Program?
We have designed a ‘Good Governance Check' which all
not-for-profit disability services are invited to take voluntarily.
Successful completion of the ‘Good Governance Check'
entitles your organisation to a listing on our website under
the ‘Joy Investment’ program and a link from our
website to yours. This routes thousands of potential business
donors straight to your organisation and the Donation Priority
List you have developed in conjunction with us.
Benefits to Corporate ‘Joy Investment’ Donors
If you become a ‘Joy Donor’, you essentially
subsidise entertainment for people with disability which is
provided by us, using funds earmarked for that purpose by
your company.
- We do not accept payment from not-for-profit organisations
in return for listing them on this website. Every listed
not-for profit organisation has to pass a ‘Good Governance
Check’. The results of the ‘Good Governance
Check’ on each not-for-profit organisation listed
are available for you to peruse prior to making a donation.
Our checks are free to the not-for-profit organisation and
free to your company. It’s our donation to the ‘Joy
Investment’ program. Therefore, you know that your
company’s donation will be used properly. This saves
you a lot of time (which is money!) investigating the worthiness
of a particular cause.
- You get to negotiate your company’s donation terms
with the organisation, after reviewing their priority areas
for the current year; all not-for-profit organisations we
support use the same Donation Priority Format so you can
easily compare the effects of donating to one or another
organisation.
- Advertising of your company’s name and products
during the entertainment event you sponsor. (Note: All signage
and advertising materials to be provided by the donor.)
- A Certificate of Appreciation from the organisation you
donate to.
- Acknowledgement of your company’s support in all
media pieces surrounding the entertainment event.
- Brilliant word-of-mouth recommendations from the person
with a disability, their family and friends about your company
and the joy you provided by donating the entertainment.
- Great karma!
Why are our Good Governance checks so good?
Free Radical Enterprises’ Managing Director, Lisa Sampson,
was a social systems architect in the government and non-government
disability services sector for over 15 years. Lisa pioneered
new methods in funding administration as well as Service Self-Assessment
and consumer feedback systems for state-funded services in
NSW. She’s most proud of the work she did in facilitating
the movement of many hundreds of people from boarding houses
and large residential centres to funded, community based housing
and support services. One of her biggest rewards has been
meeting disability support staff who work from the heart.
Based on taking a ‘big picture’ approach while
understanding the intricate, human things that enrich the
lives of people with disability who require support, she custom
designed a ‘Good Governance Check' which all the not-for-profit
disability services listed on this website took voluntarily.
We’re proud to pass on the benefits of this experience
in service quality assessment to you.
